Software Recommended
ZoneAlarm - my most recommended firewall. The Free version is ok but not as secure as the paid version. I think its well worth to pay extra bucks for the secure version with frequent updates.

Norton - affordable home firewall and virus scanner. I uses it virus scanner for some years but found out that Western Washington Unversity offers it for students for free so I switched.
Mcafee - Western Washington University recommend to use this as virus scanner. I actually like it. Its very easy to use. Just get their regular virus scanner. All their add-on sucks.

Spyware can also gather information about e-mail addresses and even passwords and credit card numbers. Also called adware.

Spy Bot - "Search & Destroy" - can detect and remove a multitude of adware files and modules from your computer. Spybot also can clean program and Web-usage tracks from your system, which is especially useful if you share your computer. For advanced users, it allows you to fix Registry inconsistencies related to adware and to malicious program installations. The handy online-update feature ensures that Spybot always has the most current and complete listings of adware, dialers, and other uninvited system residents.
